Peppermint | Herb Profile

PEPPERMINT, is a cross between spearmint and water mint. It has a high content of menthol which makes it an excellent medicinal herb with many powerful healing

properties. Different species of mints have been crossed for centuries creating many interesting varieties. Just to name a few of my favorites, there is orange, apple, pineapple, Kentucky colonel, mojito, chocolate, lime, peppermint, spearmint and the list goes on. A recorded writing of a monk during the ninth century stated, "there are so many different mints he would rather count the sparks of Vulcan's furnace". All of the different garden mints can be used medicinally and they are all equally effective. Pennyroyal which is also in the mint family is the exception. It is not to be used internally.

Mint is a great herb to start with for a beginning herb gardener. It is very easy to grow and has very little pest and disease issues.
